I sought the Lord, and He answered me; He delivered me from all my fears.

Psalm 34:4

Find what you’re looking for

Has anyone ever been told or made to feel that it’s unchristian too worry? To be anxious or depressed about the future or the past? Today’s devotion really helps to shine some light on that. Have you ever been to an event that promises to help you “unlock your full potential?” What do you think your full potential even means? Is it something that can be achieved on our own? I don’t think a lot of us realize the pain that can be involved in reaching our full potential. Not just the pain of making mistakes. But it’s the pain of letting go of pride. Dreams that are holding us back. Trauma responses or “bad habits” that bring us comfort and security. And let’s not forget the pain of dragging ourselves to do something when we are dead tired and #would rather do Anthony else. The pain of being Jesus to those who are difficult to love. The pain of being rejected, ridiculed, and put down as we step out of our comfort zone to reach our full potential. Potentially putting up boundaries for emotional and mental health that leave others feeling kept in the cold. And of course, the pain of trying something over and over, not out of insanity but out of knowing that it might take a million tries before you get it, and that giving up isn’t going to help, even if getting up for the thousandth time feels like torture. I want to sat that the bigger the dream, the more “successful” someone is, especially if they are trying to do big things for the kingdom, then the worse the pain they’ve had to go through. I’m glad to have God beside me every step of the way. Is there anyone out there like me who has been storing ip Hope in their relationships? And when someone lets you down or hurts you, it can completely devastate you? Maybe there’s someone in your life whom you love, but you just bring out the worst in each other, and whenever you think things are changing you get a brutal reminder of just how flimsy things really are. “Loving difficult people,” as the devotion put it today, might only be possible if we don’t store our Hope and pin our dreams in relationships, but rather on Jesus Christ. And it’s not easy when your treasure chest gets blown apart, and you have to rebuild. But I’m going to hope I can fade these people in my life if I realize the temporary nature of the relationship - it’s really not worth losing my head over something that will seem so small maybe even a decade from now, never mind eternity. I hope I can think that way today, in any case. It won’t be easy. Have you ever said something that you truly regret? Something that still haunts you to this day? My mouth gets the better of me a lot. God has been working with me to be more patient and quiet, but it’s hard. My words have contributed to the utter destruction of some relationships that were very dear to me, and looking back, I’m appalled at some of the things I’ve said to people I wish I could take it back. But I’m also trying not to let it make me scared to voice my thoughts and opinions - just learning to filter them through Jesus, like we learned at evangelism class this week! What are three things that have you the most anxious or afraid today? For me: I can’t believe some of this stuff is actually starting to grow. Maybe I won’t need to go to the grocery store this autumn? Do you ever think about the evil forces at work around you? If you’re like me, probably not. I tend to think that the trouble I’m in is solely my fault alone, because there is something irredeemably bad about me that even Jesus can’t touch this side of heaven. But now I’m starting to be more aware of the thoughts that aren’t from me, but are schemes to get me to lay low and believe I’d best not try anything too daring, or anything at all. Things that keep me stuck in old patterns, for example with my “enemies,” or people who have heart and betrayed me. I want to be angry and righteous against them forever, but in some cases, I know I do need to do what I can to reforge those relationships, even if they will take a different shape. I can rebuke what they did to me, forgive them, and in some cases rebuild with them. Sometimes it’s difficult to figure out what I’m “running” to, because I don’t see what I’m doing as physical running. It’s more like slipping into habits (Elaine helpful and some not) related to people or activities that I tend to do when I’m stressed or upset. I’m learning to have more intentionality and actually turn to God and talk to Him when things are upside down, but like everything, it’s a learning process. What are your coping habits? What do you want to accomplish while you’re here? I just turned 25 yesterday, and I’ve come to the point where I’ve accepted that every day is ticking down to my death. What do I want to do before then? I don’t know about you, but I have big dreams for my life. Shaping Planet Hope into a global, multi-industry ministry. Becoming a bestselling author and renowned speaker. Winning a Peace Prize or two, becoming Prime Minister and eventually taking over the UN. I want to be rich, powerful, successful, admired, and famous. I want a big family who loves me, and to finally slay these mental health demons that plague me daily. As Sharpay Evans once said, “I want it all.” I want to be the greatest, and yet, what does the Bible say? So many start out with good intentions. Saul, David, Gideon, Moses, Abraham. And yet they are all eventually corrupted by that power, at least a little. Jesus warns us again and again that to be great is to be humble, and that the greatest thing we can do is to rest at his feet, sell what we have to the poor and travel around preaching the message with nothing but the clothes on our backs. The greatest thing we can do is be a servant, washing each other’s feet and doing the lowliest things that no king other than Jesus Himself would do. Could you imagine anyone in the current royal family washing your nasty ass feet? I think not. And that’s why Jesus is greater than all of them.

World Bee Day

World Bee Day

We need the bees! Whether they are honey bees or wild bees – we won’t have food without them, or at the least, food will become scarce and debilitated. The crops need the bees to pollinate to preserve biodiversity.
