#103 Scars of a Broken Soldier

Living in the trenches waiting for my next command
Blood runs like little rivers down my arms and hands
Friends lay broken,, lying in blood, the last thing they will see
They fought they died, they gave their lives, because they believed.
As a duty to my country, I must fight until I drop
It feels like I have nothing left. I've given all I've got.
Scars all over my body, from battles won and lost
Remember, remember, that day in November, not what it cost
My friends, my faith, my ignorance, and my peace of mind.
Some of us came home, but couldn't forget those we left behind
Now it's another battle, another war, tearing the world apart
The exact same stench in another trench, more scars on my heart
The thunder rolls and the lightning strikes and the rain falls like tears
The oceans tremble and the mountains shake and sky shivers with fear
The Lord promised never again to end the world in flood
But we cannot win because it's our sin that's soaking the earth in blood
Bearing the scars of broken soldiers we march to the beat of the guns
I put my faith in God and try not to think about everyone I love
This isn't a war I started, but I have to fight if I want to be free.
My throat is parched but still I march in a war that shouldn't be.
