I’m one of a million who crave your attention
One of a million, not worth a mention
You’re one in a million, sought like the sun
The chance you’d love me is a million to one.
The privilege to love you is a child’s dream
A dream with a falsely beautiful gleam
A dream where you understand and adore me
A dream that dies when you stand before me
Although I try not to, I can’t help but stare
I know in my heart that I shouldn’t dare
Even to look at an angel like you
An angel so lovely, so pure, and so true.
An angel basking in diamonds of rain
My presence before you is crass and profane
To love is to kill, to trust is to die
To hope is to fall, to speak is to lie.
When at last you give your sweet heart away
I’ll be one of a million crying that day
Even knowing it couldn’t have worked
Won’t stop me from wanting the dream that lurked
