We're all lined up at the starting line Coach has got his starting watch The whistle blows, we all take off Hoping this time we can beat the clock The last one through is this slow, short girl Puffing around the track No matter how fast the rest of us run This girl always holds us back And so we wait, and around she goes Soon Coach gets out a book Finally she comes back, red in the face And we check how long it took Over the weeks the times get longer Most doesn't she doesn't even come And when she did, she got further behind The faster we tried to run. BUt one day someone ran beside her And the next day there were four Pretty soon, we ran as a team again And then the Coach shook our little world In our race against time, we left her behind And that's when the numbers were worst But only because when we all ran away He added our times onto hers.
