How was I supposed to know
Where the road I’m taking goes
When I don’t even know
Where I stand?
How was I supposed to see
That you were walking there with me
When all I saw were strangers
In this land?
If I’d known then what I know now
Maybe you could’ve helped me out somehow
I guess not all roads are straight
And every path ain’t paved with gold
Wouldn’t it be great
If I had started fifty years ago?
Once upon a time
I would’ve taken the high road
But nowadays the easy ways
Are hidden down below
So I will see you when I see you
But for now, I gotta go
Back and forth along the shore
Don’t know what I’m searching for
Or how I’ll even know
What I’ve found
Maybe you’re beyond the sea
I didn’t know that there could be
A love that doesn’t
Have to make a sound
But how was I supposed to see
That you were walking there with me
When all I see are letters
In the sand?
If you had known then where I’d be now
Maybe you could have helped me out somehow
‘Cause not all roads are straight
And every path ain’t made of gold
I shouldn’t be late,
I should have started fifty years ago
Once upon a time
I would’ve taken the high road
But nowadays the easy ways
Are hidden down below
Life is such a winding road
Up and down, and round it goes
Love is only writing
In the sand
I’ve crossed the mountains and the shores
Been here so many times before
But this time you’re not here
To hold my hand
I wish you could be here with me now
I’m thinking I could’ve made it out somehow
‘Cause not all roads are straight
And every path ain’t made of gold
I shouldn’t be late,
I should have started fifty years ago
Once upon a time
I would’ve taken the high road
But nowadays the easy ways
Are hidden down below
I miss you and I hope to see you soon
You always put my life back in tune
I will see you when I see you
But for now I’ve gotta go
